Endometriosis Management

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing pain and sometimes infertility. SYMPTOMS: • Painful periods (dysmenorrhoea) • Chronic pelvic pain • Pain during intercourse (dyspareunia) • Heavy menstrual bleeding • Infertility • Pain with bowel movements or urination during periods TREATMENT: • Medical management — hormonal therapy (oral contraceptives, GnRH agonists, progestogens) • Surgical management — excision of endometriotic lesions, drainage of endometriomas • Combined approach — surgery followed by medical suppression IMPACT ON FERTILITY: Endometriosis is a significant cause of infertility; early diagnosis and appropriate treatment can improve reproductive outcomes.
